Dr. James Anderson

Dr. Anderson is a retired Colonel from the US Army Medical Reserves, long-time medical professional, and retired medical educator.

Dr. James Anderson graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1978. He is Family and Emergency Medicine Board Certified.

Dr. Anderson worked full time and part time for 20 years in the Emergency Room at Chippenham/Johnston Willis HCA Hospitals. He joined the faculty at Chesterfield Family Practice Residency Program in 1995.

In 2021, Dr. Anderson retired after twenty-four years as Associate Clinical Professor with the Department of Family Practice, Medical College of Virginia, during which time he helped train more than two hundred Family Medicine physicians. Concurrently, he also served as Associate Director of Chesterfield Family Practice Center until 2018.

Dr. Anderson served in the US Army Medical Reserves from 2002 until he was honorably discharged as Colonel in 2012 at the mandatory retirement age of 60. During his service, Dr. Anderson did five Active Duty, four-month mobilizations, including two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

Dr. Anderson has been married to Doris Kane Anderson for 47 years. They raised four children together and now are grandparents of nine grandchildren.
